Welcome to the Tamamo Clan! Our leader's the most beautiful, kind, and intelligent woman in this place, you know? The Esteemed Tenkohime's taking on a lot of responsibility by letting us join the clan, so first thing's first: don't fuck up the image of the clan by goofing off or acting like an idiot. Remember, we're all here to work for our contracts! And while we're here, we're representing her, and everyone else! So don't go doing anything stupid while you're out there being one of the faces of us all; too many people have worked hard to make this place somewhere you can be your truest self for one little snot-nosed upstart to fuck it up.

EMBER 3.0 - A Social App for Lost Souls! [September Substory]

UPDATE EMBER 3.1 (OVERFLOW)

The EMBER Application icon flashes alive on the homescreen of all the Lost Soul devices across Jigoku-cho. Not a surprise if your character has been using it already, but perhaps unsettling to newbies or those who deleted it previously. It pops open on its own, welcoming the user and telling them that all Lost Souls has updated to the newest version!

Oh well, why think too hard about it? A lengthy and extremely technically worded Terms of Service appears, even if it's been gone through before, it has some updates. Again, why scroll up to read all that? There's a large ACCEPT button front and center! (There doesn't seem to be a Decline button. Closing out of the App is the only way to not agree... Might want to just delete the App to be safe.)

Accepting moves users forward to App Permissions! A Helpful Window says "Accept All and your profile will be quickly updated or auto-generated for you! Great for speeding set up along! (Recommended)". If that doesn't sway, then each Permission question can be prompted individually. The subsequent windows ask for a variety of totally standard and absolutely above board access prompts. Location Data, Photo/Video Access, etc etc etc- Yes or No! REMINDER: The app will function better if all access is granted!

It doesn't seem to matter what is pressed- all, some, or nothing- the App moves forward for users regardless.

EMBER profiles all have ☆'s denoting... something. The only clarity is that they come with a Title besides them. These are not, as it might first seem, faction star rankings. They're just ranks on some unknown scale. The example profile has the highest rank to be found, 5 stars and the title of Creator.

Everybody else gets between 1 and 4 stars with what seems like an algorithmically generated title. These could be anything from ☆ Stink Man up to more illustrious ☆☆☆☆ Faction Hero. If characters are not happy with their Rank and Titles, they can pay using their profile generated Dragon Coins to reroll. They might get a worse result, so watch out, spending on gatcha can get out of hand...

(OOC Note: Rank and Title cannot be edited or changed ICly by a character, but are fully an OOC choice of rank and title! Make up whatever funny, edgy, cool, silly thing you like and saddle your character with it as their profile title.)

Higher star ranks seem to be weighted in favor of getting Green Checkmarks via the algorithm. Hmm.

SWIPE ¹

Swipe Left or Right, accepting the green or red... proposals? Is that what they are? The App immediately starts a Live Chat between the two parties, complete with recommendations for either highly rated Love Hotels or nearby Fighting Gyms with arenas to use. These come with a variety of discount coupons for use, seems both of these places like to charge by the hour...

ALGORITHM
Stalling on the profile for more than a few seconds results in a loading graphic of a little dancing fire. **Calculating!** it says;

Ding! The In App Algorithm has decided for you! How convenient. The person whose profile was being looked at automatically gets sent a FUCK ✓ or FIGHT ✕, complete with that same live chat initiation mentioned above.

Rarely, there's a third option, essentially an algorithm fail state called CHILL, which still initiates the live chat. That means the system didn't find either of the other two options appropriate. Bummer. It generates completely random suggestions on where to meet, usually a cafe or eatery that is doing an EMBER promotion.

NEW FEATURES - SEPTEMBER
New EMBER, new features! The previous update centered largely around the addition of"EMBER Premium", an area of the app meant for use by Heavenly Celestials (and their wallets).

Lost Soul profiles can receive and cash out a digital currency called Dragon Coins. While Lost Souls cannot interact with the Celestials via the app, the Celestials have some functionality, namely they can donate Dragon Coins to their favorite Lost Souls. Dragon Coins can be turned into actual hell currency through the app- nothing much more than pocket money, but it's a little extra pay! Why not side hustle from your phone?

The big change this update is that Only Celestials seems to have been urolled into the upgraded "EMBER, Go!" a fully functional Augmented Reality Collection Game! Dragon Coins appear as an in-app currency and can be used and collected a variety of new ways, all gamified and presented with cute pixel graphics. Seems that the investment money Ydris hustled up at the Tanabata event went into this and the production value is on point.

EMBER Go!

-GATCHA BANNERS: The Celestials are very visual and they love little more than photos and pretty outfits. Seems they're willing to really whale for their favorites, whoever they may be among the Lost Souls. Those who upload photos of themselves in the current outfit "theme" get a large bonus for contributing to the current GATCHA BANNER running on the Celestials side of things.

September's Theme is "END OF SUMMER" and encourages either fun Beach Wear looks or cozy Autumn outfits. If your character puts in a lot of effort, they might even be the featured SSR for the banner, guaranteeing them a higher bonus pay out! (OOC Note: Character gatcha rate/success is completely at Player discretion!)

-QUESTS: Walking around Jigokucho, the App will buzz and alert of Quests! There are certain activities that when interacted with and posted to EMBER, result in Dragon Coin pay outs. Try out that new boba joint, you get 20% off and a Dragon Coin kick back- just remember to take a photo of your pretty drink.

These are very likely to be active at Character Owned or Managed Locations, so be sure to stop in a support your fellow Lost Souls!

-COLLECT 'EM ALL: The most game part of this phone game, all Lost Soul profiles have a cutesy sprite versions of themselves! They're even animated, how precious... Don't you want to collect the whole roster? These are scattered about the map, spawning characters largely in the areas their faction holds territory. Hopefully nobody walks into danger looking for that shiny variety of their significant other...

You can grab all your friends and enemies, rename them as you please, and play with them as little Tamagotchi-like critters. Level up your favs and play minigames, it's a fun distraction on your device, nothing too deep.

Sure, forgetting to feed them is grim, but why not enjoy loading up an enemy to languish in digital space uncared for. It's cathartic! Maybe be careful, other Lost Souls can absolutely look at your collection and see how you treat them in digital space!

-PRIVATE PROFILE: Don't want any of this? Profiles can be set to Private! This doesn't actually block off from other Lost Souls, but it's an easy way to opt-out of EMBER, Go! and the Celestials. The cost is "all Dragon Coins" currently on account. If you're not playing, they why bother with those?

(Due to some obtuse design choices, it might be difficult to find this option... Your character would be forgiven for not even realizing it's there!)

[Sorry to ruin the new month for everyone, but Aster's Starving and he needs More Hot Contacts so that he doesn't blow precious coin on enough Poppo fare to keep this form going. It is now everyone else's problem, and he emphasises that by showing up clearly sprawled on his basic-ass starter bed, legs kicking behind him and chin propped up on his forearm. Very appealing angle. Yeah.]

Helloooooooo everyone~ Listen, listen...I wouldn't impose on everyone like this if I could help it, but I can't, so... I was just wondering! [He scoots forward just a touch, mouth curving into an open smile that blatantly showcases both sharp fangs.

It's hard to miss them, with how at least one tends to jut out over his bottom lip whenever he smiles, but this is the least subtle display of fangery he's ever indulged in thus far.]

Does anyone feel like they could part with some of their blood? ...On a regular basis, even? I'll help you stay hydrated and all, and I won't take all of it ♡ I just need a few sources to cycle through so that I'm not bothering any one person... [ The video cuts in to Musashi's office, small as it was (and more than a bit messy at this point) at Mizukume, but she's quick to reconsider this and cuts the feed.

Only to re-open on one of the courtyard gardens of Mizukume, sitting on a bench. She's still in her work attire, and she'll get to that, but more to the point, she's probably a recognizeable face to most of the clan by now.

Hello, new lost souls of the Tamamo Clan! My name is Shinmen Musashi no Kami Fujiwara no Harunobu, but you can just call me Miyamoto Musashi. Or just Musashi, really, I'm not hung on formality.

I am your high-lieutenant and main liaison for Lost Souls here in the Tamamo Clan! My own lieutenant is Shylock Bennett, and the other seniors are Robin Laffite, Tenshi Hinanawi, Jin Guangyao, Nie Huaisang, Gao Yizhi, Chongyun, Aerith Gainsborough, and... Billy The Kid. Just call him Billy.

A-anyways, those are the names of folks you can go to if you have any questions or needs! We're all here to help you get settled!

Firstly, as representatives of the Tamamo Clan, while we don't have a formal dress code, you are expected to dress nicely, as nicely as you can manage, anyways. Given what our clan represents, this probably makes sense, but if you need help getting nicer stuff, the local boutiques and tailors DO have a work-exchange program where you can get some good clothes in exchange for a little labor.

Also, most importantly... [ She gestures to the shiny pin on her jacket lapel, the kanji for Tamamo emblazoned on it. ] If you're on the clock, you'll want this on display at all times. We have plenty of them here at Mizukume, so stop by the offices to grab yours. Trust me, it's important.

There'll be a party of some sort soon to make sure everyone gets to know one another, but otherwise, you guys have a free week to just settle then. After that, we all have to get to work, okay?

NEW FEATURES - JULY
So, what is in the Update to EMBER? Plenty! And much of it unseen to Lost Souls. Ydris has spent most of their time creating a splinter branch of the app denoted as "EMBER Premium" and it is for Celestials only. It is a pay to access service with a delightful little thing called microtransactions. Seems those Dragon Coins from answering Profile Questions do have some purpose! While Lost Souls cannot interact with the Celestials via the app, the Celestials have some functionality, namely they can donate Dragon Coins to their favorite Lost Souls.

Dragon Coins can be cashed out through the app for a small cash bonus- some extra spending money, nothing too crazy. By what rate compared to what they're being purchases at is unclear... Oh well. It's a little extra pay! Why not side hustle from your phone? There's even a leader board!

How does one become one of the favored souls, anyways-?

ONLY~~FANS~~ CELESTIALS

-MORE PHOTOS: Simple enough, the Celestials are very visual! They're more likely to donate if a Lost Soul has appealing photos on their profile.

-PLAYLISTS: Some curious Celestials like to see what music tastes are had among the Lost Souls. List a few songs you character is fond of or just selected at random to fill the missing profile element for a Dragon Coin bonus.

-QUEST NOTIFICATION: Some Celestials like to be a little more involved, so they spend to create a Quest. These can be sent to individual Souls or picked up from a virtual Bulletin Board. They are experiences or tasks to do around town and document! The app provides a location map should it require going to a certain place. These are largely benign requests such as "Take a photo drinking the new boba tea at this shop!" or "Share a story about your homeworld" or "Post video performing your favorite karaoke number!" Sometimes, they are requests to do good deeds or participate in local volunteer efforts.

Very occasionally, they are more saucy requests for lewd photos. Those requests cannot be sent to individuals! The Celestials get what they get when asking for those on the bulletin board!

Whether it's a rare moment of Ydris' coding filtering correctly or just the Celestials having collectively better judgement than those in Hell; no illegal, harassing, nor dangerous requests can be posted.

-LEADER BOARD: OOC OPT IN/OUT here to have your character added to/kept off of the HEAVENLY HOTNESS LEADERBOARD. This will be a purely RNG'd list of characters the Celestial's favor most. It will be updated every 1-2 weeks for the next (2) months, as I have time! Watch the rise and fall as a variety of results play out.
