Good morning, everyone. I hope you're well.
[read: he hopes that you're not too hungover and that none of you died out there last night.]
Despite the different clans to which we've been assigned, we all find ourselves in strange territory in Jigoku-cho. It may look close to what several of us recognize as Japan, but as you might've already discovered, familiarity does not guarantee similarity. The other day, I met a man who could have easily been from my world, perhaps even my continent or country-- only to discover he hailed from a completely different planet.
So, I'd like to begin gathering information. [He's no Sutoku, but this is important to all of them, and-- as he's been taught-- there are no shortcuts when it comes to investigation.] The more that we know about our fellow lost souls, the more we will have to work from as we learn more about this place and why we're here. We can start with something simple. If you would like, please share where, and when, you are from.
I'll start. I am from Tokyo's 25th Ward, in Japan, on Earth, in the year 2005.
(ooc: feel free to threadjack around! ✌️)

A Grasshopper: matcha, mocha, and peppermint syrup. It's a secret menu item, but just like at the Starbucks back home, they don't always recognize it by name, so you have to ask for the exact items to add. I like this one a lot, so I was curious to see if it tasted the same here.
A pizza... [Oh no, he started the food talk. Now he's getting hungry.] Is there a difference between the levels? Does part of the level you're from look like Jigoku-cho?
oh god i just realized i was typing midgar as midgard even w you pointing it out MY BAD
wow, i've never seen anything like it! take me with you next time? and did it taste the same?
yep, a pizza! and sort of, i guess? i mean, not the same, but similar in a lot of ways. you could say i'm an old hand at getting around in places like this.
no worries 💖
Um, sure. I can take you. That would be nice. [Nailed it.] It was actually better than it usually is, by the way.
All I'm doing for the next few days is getting my bearings, so... if you're free this afternoon, we could meet up.
no subject
i run on my own schedule, so sure! i've never been to any of these kinds of places before. they have them where i'm from, but it's kind of a luxury.

[Surely it's safe to meet up for coffee and more on-the-ground info about Jigoku-cho? And if not... at the very least, he's no slouch when it comes to defending himself. He sends Aerith an address: it's neutral territory-- a park-- on the edges of Sutoku territory, just a short walk to the Starbucks.]

oh! i know this spot, i'll be there quicker than you expect.
[ True to her word, she's there probably much faster than anyone coming from Tamamo has a right to be. Who knows. Either way, there's probably little doubt about the girl with the flowy pink dress and red biker jacket being flowery, if only because she's standing around with a basket of flowers in her arm. They are, if he's keen to check, decorative. ]
Hellooooo? I'm looking for an... Uehara?
so sorry for the delay!! T_T
That's me: Kamui Uehara. But you can call me Kamui if you like.
[His voice is softer, and a little younger, than his straightforwardness on the network might imply, but he's no less polite in his tone of voice. He glances down at her basket of flowers again, smiling faintly:]
I assume your real name isn't "flowery"?
omg its all good ❤
Hmm... what if it was, though?
[ The playful way she responds betrays the fact it is not her name, of course. Still, she grins sweetly before plucking one flower out of the basket and placing it into the fur of his jacket. ]
There. Now you're unmistakable.
im crying she's so sweet
[The gesture's simple enough, but the flower still takes Kamui totally off guard. His polite face slips; for a second, he even looks flustered.
And THEN, he ducks his head and pulls it back together.]
Thank you. [Kamui touches the flower's petals, tentative-- not fresh after all, but still very pretty. He's totally leaving it.] Shall we? It's just down this street.
don't fall for it she is capable of horrors beyond our imagination...
Don't worry. I'll charge you for it later.
[ Hopefully inflation doesn't get him! ]
Definitely! Let's go. [ Instead of letting him lead the way, she makes a beeline for Starbies. This is a girl who wandered in with no clue of what to order and is eager to learn. Teach her all about Starbucks, Kamui. ]

[Wow, she's already on her way, huh. Kamui picks up the pace behind Aerith, catching up to her just as she gets to the Starbucks' doors. There's a kitsune barista at the counter flagging them down; she waves at the two of them with a furry orange paw, grinning toothily.
Welcome to Starbucks! What can I get started for you?]
Well, [he says, turning to Aerith,] they have normal coffee and tea, as well as sweet drinks that are sort of like juices or milkshakes or smoothies. What sort of things do you like?
[The barista watches them patiently, her tails swaying slightly behind her. Lotta Starbucks newbies around this week.]
no subject
I like all kinds of foods and drinks. I guess I'm more familiar with tea, though. [ Flowery ones always feel like home. ] Where's that green mint drink you show me fall on that?
no subject
It's quite sweet, and has cream in it, if that's an issue. [The barista helpfully chimes in about milk replacements! Once she's done, Kamui pauses, then holds up a finger, suddenly realizing:] Oh, and its base is actually matcha. I'm not sure if you'd know about it, if you aren't from Japan? It's powdered green tea leaves. Traditionally, we would mix it with water to drink-- there's even a special tea ceremony for very fine quality matcha-- but in modern times, it gets used for other things, like flavoring cakes and other desserts.
[IN SHORT:] It's delicious.
no subject
Two of those! Please!
[ Turning back to grin him, she points to an empty table. ] You'll stay, right? It's more fun to eat and drink together.
no subject
Well...
[Right. Kamui was just taking her here and showing her how Starbucks worked, he totally didn't sign up for this. He glances at the kitsune behind the counter, then back at the table, before conceding:]
You're right, it is more fun. I can stay.
[And because he's a ~gentleman~ he's buying Aerith's drink too.]
no subject
You know, [ Wandering over to an empty set of seats, she lets him handle the drink fetching, too. ] I usually charge for dates. But I think a mini date is enough payment for a Starbucks drink, right?
[ Her question is punctuated by a wink, and Aerith's hands come to rest gently in her lap. She can't help but tease. (It does, to be fair, usually get her what she wants.) ]
no subject
This is a date? [he replies, with genuine confusion: even the barista's snickering at him from across the room. He's not missing a beat, though, setting their drinks down on the tabletop as he takes a seat.
...No, wait. She's making fun of him. That makes more sense.]
It wasn't supposed to be, but I think it's probably fair. Drink add-ons do cost a little bit more.
no subject
So, this is like... custom, then? Or maybe you're just coming up with an excuse to draw your date out. Hmmm! [ She has no idea what that means, but feeling like there's a kernel of truth to his words. Of course, a date with a cute girl is always worth extra drink add-ons! Or something like that, at least.
Tucking in, if he's waiting for her approval, it comes in the form of... still slurping it down moments later. She's going to get a brain freeze at this rate. ]
no subject
No tricks or customs. I was just being nice, if you could believe it.
[What he can't believe is how quickly she's slurping the frap down... Aerith, chill (ba-dum-tssh). Kamui watches her with mild amusement for a moment or two before he continues--]
Well? Was it worth the trip? I'm sure there's even better things to try in this city, but a Starbucks in Hell is pretty novel, too... especially if you've never had it before.
no subject
Yep! Most of this kind of stuff you see Topside where I'm from, but to be honest, I think the company made it that much more enjoyable. Thanks, Kamui.
[ She still hasn't given him her name. Oops. ]
no subject
[Oops. He just remembered she hasn't, too.]
It isn't really 'flowery', is it? I'm sure it's not.
no subject
[ She's ribbing him. ]
Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Aerith. Aerith Gainsborough, local florist and newly appointed Starbucks aficionado.
no subject
[He smiles, less hesitant now. Look, Aerith, he's catching up!!!]
Then it's nice to officially meet you, Aerith. [Kamui fiddles with the petals of that synthetic flower she's given him.] Are there many flowers in hell to sell? Everything seems very, um, urban. I've barely seen any trees around.
no subject
If it was up to me... I'd really want to see this whole place in bloom. [ Leaning back, she drinks in the image of shop go-ers living busily: From the customers to the employees, it seems like life is in full swing in Hell. ] What's your favorite flower, Kamui?
no subject
And my favorite flower... mm. [He takes a thoughtful slurp of his drink.]
Ayame, probably. They're a kind of Japanese iris: they're this really vibrant blue-violet color. [It's a woman's name too, of course. His thoughts even drift toward a particular Ayame in his mind as he builds the image of the flower in his head.] They grow wild in Japan in some places, but... not the area I'm from. It's about as bare as it is here in the 25th Ward.
