[locked to dept of the enma] video; un: sannan
[Sannan is dressed fairly formally, in Western clothes with two swords at his hip, so he looks sort of... official. Which might make this come off as way more passive-aggressive or official than is entirely intended. I mean, it's intended to be passive-aggressive, considering he is how he is, but he'll say the following with an utterly pleasant, head-tipped, eyes somewhat closed smile.]
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Sannan Keisuke, a recent arrival. I have been given the privilege [the way he says privilege tho] of joining the ranks of the Department of the Enma. I'm quite unfamiliar with this sort of technology, so forgive me if I do something incorrectly.
[He shifts slightly.] To the point then. I, and several of my fellow new arrivals, have been experiencing difficulty acquiring information about certain aspects of our duties. It must also be noted that fellow Lost Souls who shall remain nameless, but who report to other factions, have been greeted with information about rules, regulations, leadership, and even dress codes.
One wonders, then, if there are any such requirements for our faction. This is merely a personal inquiry, as I have little desire to pin any one person to responsibility they do not wish to hold. Therefore, if someone with more tenure and experience could see fit to enumerate upon such things for those of us newly arrived, I will gladly facilitate dissemination of such information to fellow newcomers, and alleviate any burden upon those already far busier than myself.
Thank you for your time, and for your efforts which have preceded our arrival. We will all assuredly do our utmost to do honor to the tasks set before us. [Thinking back. To arrival. And sharks.] No matter how interesting they may be.
[And he parts that whole thing with a formal bow.]
[OOC: This is open to all Enma, feel free to threadjack and go wild on the answers!]

[He smiles.]
I was part of a military-adjacent unit before coming here, so my expertise and experience may be beneficial in policing. I went on regular patrols for many years.

[LIKE PARAMILITARY OR-]

Officially, we were under governmental oversight. However, we were an independent unit. My own squad was a... bit of a secret, I will admit. But officially sanctioned by the shogunate, nonetheless.

[NEAT!!! HISTORY PEOPLE!!!]
no subject
In part, yes. The year as others may call it was 1868.
[He at least got that much info.]
It was a tumultuous time, to say the least.
no subject
Ah, so during the Boshin War!
Would that make you a member of the shinsengumi, Sannan-san?
no subject
Formerly, yes.
no subject
How do you write your name, Sannan-san?
[HE HAS A THEORY.]
no subject
With the character for "mountain" and the character for "south".
no subject
Oh! I know who you are then, I think!! For some reason, where I'm from, we read it as Yamanami. I guess it must be a parallel universe sort of thing, the way Sherlock Holmes is Herlock Sholmes here.
[SANNAN DOESN'T KNOW WHO THAT IS, SHUT UP.]
no subject
It can be read that way, yes. You aren't the first to point that out, and no one has recognized my name otherwise, leading me to believe I'm the unusual one.
[He smiles.]
May I ask what you know of me, then?
no subject
Mm, I know that you were involved with a disagreement within the factions formed within the unit?
no subject
That's the story, yes. Though it seems to be true enough for others, the rumors of my death in my own timeline were in fact quite premature. I'm still alive, more or less. My opinions on the organization did suffer, that much holds true.
no subject
Well, hopefully you don't end up with the same opinion of the department! And you can ask me if you need help with any other technology things, Sannan-san!
no subject
The Department seems to have many capable people working for it, though some seem unconfident. I hope I can help those individuals grow. However, I would appreciate knowing more of the ins and outs of the technology here. That may be the one area I'm less than confident in thus far.

I see. How did that come about? I suppose they were supplanted by newer technology...?

[Says Fukuda, drill wielding sextuple murderer.]
no subject
That does make sense. I should hope it's peaceful enough that there's no need for such things.
