When ya are on th'clock for Toraguma: ya need to look right.

Black slacks, long-sleeve shirt with buttons an' a collar. An' one of these.

[ He holds up a shiny little lapel pin, it has the kanji for Shuten on it. ]

We have 'em at th'offices if ya don't have one yet.

Your shirt can be any ugly pattern ya like, or it can be plain. Tie or no tie, jacket or no jacket. If ya need help with a tie, ask somebody.

Shirts an' slacks have t'be ironed. For anyone who doesn't know how t'iron a shirt, I'll come by th'Shuten housing an' show ya as a group.

Yes, this is what Toraguma expects. Yes, I will straighten ya out [ Read: Beat ] if ya buck me on this.

Other Shutens need t'be able t'recognize ya an' we don't want ya mistaken for a colors gang with th'Enma comin' down on them.

[ He looks at someone off camera to see if he's forgotten anything. Majima mutters fuck quietly. ]

[ He inclines his head that he's listening, accepts the drink with a little nod. ]

Normally don't gotta tell guys this stuff, they wanna dress like their oyaji.

[ Says the man who speaks with a fake accent because his patriarch was Kansai. ]

I get that impression from the native guys, at least. They talk about Toraguma like he's a legendary hero, a guy who survived a massacre and brought the clan back to glory...

[ In his own way, Lio couldn't help but admire that, too, if any of it were true... ]

I guess that's what's missing for us. A reason to want to do this, beyond what we stand to gain for ourselves...

[ Majima's feelings about Toraguma are mixed. That is not his oyaji, but that might also... be for the best... He wonders what it would take for him to feel actually connected to the Oni though. And he's starting from a place of respecting the life, unlike a lot of the Shutens. He picks loose a cigarette from his deck of Hi-Lites to fiddle with. ]

Usually it's that yer grateful that th'family is givin' ya a chance at a life ya weren't gonna have otherwise. Whether that feelin' is from th'money or th'influence; both.

[ This is assuredly a life he otherwise wouldn't have had and he doesn't know if he's grateful for that or if the weight of all the things he's left undone festers for him. ]

[ Lio snapped his fingers to summon a flame, just in case Majima wasn't going to just fiddle.

He learned quickly. ]

I will say I'm grateful to Toraguma... he's giving me a chance to choose my future, instead of just leave it all to fate.

There are worse guys out there than Toraguma.

[ He agrees, eyeing the flame curiously. Huh. ]

That's a good trick.

[ He leans in for it and lights his cigarette. Then he... sits back to see if he can the same thing with the liquid from his drink. He has very little idea how to use this water power thing. It takes him a moment to really focus enough and draw out a small amount from the can; the amber liquid suspended in droplets. ]

It's not a trick.

[ Lio hummed, watching Majima as he manipulated the bits of fluid before him, seeing the droplets catch the light of the room in ways they honestly shouldn't. ]

I was born with this ability.

Huh.

[ He's listening, just processing the information slowly with half his attention somewhere else. ]

Toraguma says this is some Uwabami thing.

[ So the snake pipes up helpfully: ]

[ Lio visibly twitched when he heard the snake's voice, opening his drink and focusing on that instead. ]

I wish I could be of more help. But I'm sure you'll get it.

[ And he eyed Majima's phone. ]

How are the others taking the dress code edict?

[ He flaps his hand dismissive of the condolence; he's read enough fantasy manga he knows fire and water have nothing in common for help. Flapping his hand does disturb what he was doing and his little water droplets splish onto the table in front of him. He takes a packet of tissues out of his pocket to wipe that up. ]

Not as bad I thought. I already got Izo and Samatoki on board 'fore this. Nishitani. Bunch of th'guys are military, they shouldn't balk much.

[ Wow does Majima actually pay attention to who is in Shuten... ]

Was expectin' Dante to run me around, but he was game. Hizen'll fuss. Gojyo's gonna say somethin' sarcastic but do it anyway.

[ Names he was familiar with, though he hadn't met all of them... He made a note of Majima's reads on their personalities. But one of them definitely stood out. ]

Izo seems like a contrarian, but maybe this sort of thing just suits him.

[ Contrarian, that makes Majima snort and smirk a little. ]

He is, but we live together so he ain't gonna undermine me about it.

[ One can take what they will from this 'live together' statement. ]

[ganashara]

[ Well that made him sputter slightly. ]

You live with that guy?!

[ He wanted to follow up with "how????" but maybe that was too presumptuous. ]

We moved in together in Hakagemachi. Th'town before this where we were both possessed.

[ While roundabout, this is an answer. Difficult circumstances pushed them together and they have each other. ]

Samatoki an' Rokurou are from there too.

He just... didn't seem like the kind of guy you'd get along with...

[ But he supposed something happened in that place... He didn't really think he had a right to ask. ]

I don't think I'd be able to manage it without lighting him on fire.

[ He smiles a little, unoffended. He and Izo still get into fist fights from time to time and they've been together almost a year... ]

I'm used to it. Yakuza guys are pretty rough.

[ Lordy, speaking of. ]

...Probably wanna stay outta Nishitani's way. He's a friend of mine from... my original world. I dunno what t'call that. But he's th'real deal an' he's a handful.

Unless you tell me he's fire proof, I'm not that worried. I've dealt with plenty of "handfuls" before. Including some dangerous lunatics.

[ He snorts, a smiling spreading on his mouth. Yes, he can agree: fuck cops. ]

He's a dangerous lunatic for sure. He gets off on hurtin' people an' gettin' hurt, so just... watch out.

[ And considering Majima had to fight him twice, he supposes he's not going to doubt another young guy saying he's experienced plenty of it in his own travels. ]

[ He is sure Izo doing something stupid contributed. ]

[ A groan and roll of his eyes. ]

It was those isonade down by the riverside. We came across them at the same time by complete coincidence. They outnumbered us significantly, but he still tried to take them on. When I tried to get him out of there, he bit me.

[ He laughs. Yeah, well. That sounds like Izo, so insecure that he feels the need to show how tough he is all the time. ]

I'm beyond wanting an apology, now I just want to kick his ass.
