James Moriarty? Like, the villain in the Sherlock Holmes novels?

Though you are far younger than what the professor is depicted to be like in the books.
no subject
Though I would have you refrain from talking about that man.

[ Right, they kind of killed each other... Well, Holmes came back. Pretty thick plot armor right there. That had to be something of a sore spot. If he was even Moriarty anyway. She hoped not, because if he was she doesn't want to deal with the implication it has on this place being fictional or real. ]
I did not plan to. It's a world for opportunities, right? Not one for us to linger on our pasts.
no subject
And that would be correct. Moving on is paramount. The world stretches wide like a spider's web. Strings must be pulled.
no subject
[ Just trying to give friendly advice here. One of literature's most famous criminal mastermind talking about stretching his web and pulling strings may be somewhat worrisome. ]

People may worry all they like. Perhaps its healthy for them. But I will assure them that I do not act in my own interests. I work for a purpose.
[Not entirely the truth, of course, but not entirely a lie, either.]

[ She really doesn't. She doesn't remember any of this in the Sherlock Holmes novels, so clearly she's missing a part of the story. But in the end, that's really none of her business. ]
Is that also why you look so young? Ahaha! Sorry, I guess I'm being a bit nosy.
no subject
One could say its like a snapshot of an earlier time.
no subject
The man known as James Moriarty while in his twenties would not have any knowledge of anyone named Sherlock Holmes, would he? And yet you clearly have a strong reaction to this name.
[ She's not a detective, but that hints something really weird is going on. Yet again, this world is full of weird things... ]
no subject
Both statements are true.
no subject
You have knowledge of your future and met your nemesis in spite of it being impossible at your age...
[ Fate/ lore is too complicated for anyone to just envision, but there's a more traditional trope she can imagine someone somewhere used in the Sherlock Holmes universe: ]
Your future self employed time travel to displace you to his era!
1/2
My future self is too senile to do such a thing!
2/2
You're not too off. I'm not alive like humans are. Let's call me a magical copy, of a sort.
no subject
So he
[ She was about to say "he cloned himself," but she deletes the "he" immediately. ]
So someone cloned you?
no subject
no subject
[ Not really... Kinda, maybe. She'll think on it later. ]
Are you planning on turning over a new leaf?
[ ... She's not sure why she's even asking that. She won't trust the answer even if he said "yes." ]
no subject
I will stand against fate. That is what I can do. As I am, I have my skills, and abilities in that regard to assist this place where needed. But I rolled the dice. I made my choice for myself to be what I am. No going back.
no subject
[ That was more or less the kind of reply she had expected. Cryptic and meaning nothing outside of proper context, which she apparently lacks. Maybe she should check if this world has Sherlock Holmes novels her world doesn't... Anyway, what is she even supposed to reply? ]
Well, hopefully next time we meet I'll have a better understanding of everything you're saying, ahaha!
1/2
2/2
But I will answer questions where I can, if I wish to.
no subject
Now that I think about it... May I ask why you posted on this app?
[ Not the question she'd originally wanted to ask, but she was really curious. James Moriarty really didn't strike her as the romantic type. Yet again, he was an old man in the books... Maybe he was hunting for anyone who recognized his name. Or maybe he secretly wanted friends...! ]
no subject
I didn't. I was just trying to close the app and was clicking through some buttons.
[Don't look at him.]
no subject
Thankfully, she's keeping those thoughts to herself. ]
Ah, this technology can be confusing at first. It's similar to what we had home, but I know a lot of people never saw anything like it before.
If you ever need assistance, I'd be happy to teach you about those modern devices.
