Hello, everyone!

[on the screen is a polite-looking person with messy green hair and purple eyes. they give a wave and smile with their whole face from behind their white-rimmed glasses.]

My name is Leviathan Astrape—Levi, if you'd all like—and let me be the first to welcome you to the Sutoku Alliance! What we do here is a little more up in the air than other factions, but I think that just gives us the freedom to be who we are. If you're not sure what to do next, just keep your ear to the ground and get to know as many people as possible! It really can't hurt in the long term, and it's always better to know more than to know less.

[they don't sound stiff as they're saying it, like they have some practice with public presentations like this, but anyone watching the tracking of their eyes could probably tell that they're reading off cue cards.]

And on that note, we have a few names to know. They'll spend some time introducing themselves, I'm sure, but please keep an eye out for Artemy, Kim, Xingqiu, Yuri, Ydris, Marie, and Cloud. [a pleasant smile as they get to the end of the list.] Please also look out for Emily Dyer, especially if you need any kind of medical assistance or you're interested in helping out there. And our lieutenants within the alliance are Matoba Seiji and, of course, the death-defying Sakamoto Ryouma.

[they gesture in front of them with an open palm towards the person behind the camera.]

You're coming in during exciting times, everyone. We just had a bit of a shake-up at the Tanabata festival. The daughter of an important financial magnate has been kidnapped by an enemy of Toraguma, and though we haven't heard any orders from the Daitengu quite yet, I think we all know how things like this play out.

[and bringing both their hands in front of them, at waist level, they smile and give a polite little bow.]

So please, take this time to get to know your fellow alliance members. [they look towards the camera, then glance at their lapel, where they have a pin with the kanji for sutoku. they laugh like they knew they were forgetting something, and look back up towards everyone else.] And don't forget to pick up your official faction pin from most places within our area if you're interested.

[they wave goodbye, then stand there for a couple seconds. without the feed cutting, they walk forward towards the camera and start talking much more casually.]

Was that okay? Getting those names right was harder than I expected, and I even cut out a lot of the last names. I don't know how you did it the first time.

Hehe, y' know, I wondered about that "death defyin'" part on paper, but hearin' ya say it like that makes it sound pretty heroic! And honestly, I'm pretty sure ya did way better with those names, now that I'm thinkin' about it...

[ anyone who isn't new here will recognise the voice that responds to them from behind the camera, especially with that accent. ryouma is pretty sure he botched a couple names last time, mostly for that same reason. he might be able to fake it and cover it when he's speaking his own language, but when it comes to foreign-sounding words all bets are off. ]

[ which... hmmm, take that with a grain of salt because this man long predated show business, but still!! judging by his tone, ryouma is very pleased since all his coaching and cheerleading and cue card holding paid off, in his opinion! sure the rest of the faction will agree... right? ]

Uplink. I upload my data to the Bunker -- that's one of our orbital space stations -- so every time my body is destroyed, my data would be downloaded into a replacement body. It's one of the things that sets us YoRHa apart from other androids.

Wow, that's an incredible undertaking. Still, even just imagining the technology that had to be available to make packaging and sending that much raw data back and forth, without any kind of hardline connection- and in the event of a hardware mishap? It would have to be incredibly quick! What I wouldn't give to put those blueprints right into my eyeballs!

[He might be mad about the situation with YoRHa that he's made no mention of, but that doesn't mean 9S can't be smug about their superior android technology.]

And we had to deal with interference from the machine lifeforms.

[donnie is at least not so excited that he doesn't just throw his living location up here for the world to see, and instead drops a pin for the electronics strip mall he'd gone canvassing for employment earlier.] Meet me here, we can iron out the details.

[9S glances at the location data. Having to use his hands to manipulate the screen instead of interfacing directly is such a pain, seriously! But he recognises the surrounding streets, so he'll have no trouble finding it.]

[And really, it doesn't take 9S long to arrive at the electronics strip mall at all; a scanner like him never gets lost! He's a short 5'3" and just like his video feed, he really is wearing what appears to be a blindfold over his eyes. A... mutant turtle-man ought to be easy enough to spot, right?

...Well, it would be easier if his gaze wasn't turning in the direction of the nearest electronics store advertising the sale of computer parts.]

[donnie's not much taller, but he is surprisingly quiet (mostly because people do not expect either a turtle or a scientist to also be a ninja) and he's there at 9S's side shortly. of course he wasn't really trying to sneak up, and who knows what kind of awesome sensors this android has!! gah!! HE'S SO EXCITED!!!]

[Said awesome sensors? Suuuper not working right now. So Donny gets a startled yell from 9S as he immdiately jumps back a few feet from the sudden and unexpected presence at his side, fortunately without knocking anything over. If 9S were a cat, his fur would be all fluffed in half surprise half indignation right now.

Once he sees who it is, 9S relaxes though not without a visible air of embarassment; he's a scanner, people shouldn't be able to sneak up on him!]

You're... Donatello, right? Sorry, I didn't hear you arrive.

That's me. [does not hide that he's clearly looking 9S over as one would a particularly dope muscle car, scrutinizing that covering over his eyes even more intently. can he see through that? or is it eyewear somehow and he doesn't have humanoid ocular components?] So much nuance...! Your design really is incredibly intricate.

[9S practically preens at the attention. Yes, bask in the glory of superior android technology. Any shred of embarrassment immediately evaporates as he gives Donnie a smug grin. If his eyes weren't covered, it would seem like he's looking at Donnie.]

Of course! Us YoRHa are the latest model of android, so we can do waaay more than your average android.

I'm YoRHa Unit 9S, a scanner. You can call me 9S. There's something about this place that limits my functionality, but I'm sure I'll have plenty to show you.

[not touching at least, just looking up and down, different angles, produces a measuring tape and starts checking limb length, height, circumference,] None of my equipment is communicating, and most of it is missing. Pretty sure there are other constructs here suffering disabled systems and mechanical failures.

When should he tell Donatello that he actually has his basic specs on file? He'll observe what Donatello is measuring for now...]

Other constructs? There's other mechanical lifeforms besides me and Soundwave?

[doesn't stop taking measurements for both the mundane (limb length) and bizarre (hair length???), but internally he is screaming with joy. if soundwave isn't some alias for sonic and doesn't refer to that other beautiful mech he saw on the network, then there could be four -FOUR!!!!!!- amazing machine people here.]

Well, probably. I would've been doubtful too, but after what I've seen in the last seventy-two hours? More machines can only improve this place. [and he means it. winds up tape measure and tucks it away, tippity-tapping at his wrist computer to put those numbers in.]

What? No way. Not all mechanical lifeforms would make this place better.

[Is that disgust in his voice and expression? Absolutely. 9S folds his arms.]

I wouldn't want any of the machine lifeforms from home to show up.

[m'kay that's...odd. donnie looks up from his wrist, one (impressive) brow arched high on his (even more impressive) forehead.] Okay, no machine lifeforms. Which would make you...?

[9S kicks at the ground with a huff.]

I said it before didn't I? I'm an android. A mechanical lifeform.

[It might sound like largely a semantic difference, but it's Important to 9S. As for why...]

When the aliens invaded, they created the machines to take over Earth. We've been at war with them ever since.

[well, using the proper words is important in order to be understood. looks like there's some nuances in terminology that donnie will need to keep in mind with this one.] I see. So where you're from, androids -I'm assuming of humanoid origin- are politically opposed to other machine lifeforms. [Maybe not so self-actualized after all...?]

Yeah, we'd be better off without them. [A beat.] But I guess there's a few that helped us out.

[It's admitted with great reluctance.]

The resistance androids -- those are older generation androids who live on Earth -- regularly trade with a small village of peaceful machines. Those machines gave up on fighting and disconnected from the machine network, so we leave them be.

[And that makes them defenseless.]

That's legitimately fascinating. [machine-vs-machine politics! subterfuge! entirely inorganic societies co-mingling!] What about the humans, what do they think about it?

[9S' expression stills.]

[He covers up his reaction with an explanation.]

When the aliens invaded with their machines, humans fled to the moon. It's Command who chooses what gets reported back to the Council of Humanity. Us grunts don't get to communicate with them.

[Because humans are extinct, and he's one of the few androids who knows that.]

Hm, that's a shame. [not because like, donnie is considering how lonely it might be or how conflicted androids may feel about serving absent masters, but because he really would've liked that data to consider when pondering over this later. oh well.]

Welp I'm ready to get to the nitty-gritty if you are. Schematics? I'd like to take a look at your programming language too, don't want to be thwarted by something as -haha!- as elementary as file type incompatibility.

Oh, yeah. I guess that could be an issue. We're using a standardised language so all android models have a certain amount of compatibility. Makes it easier to maintain.

[A hard light screen appears at roughly shoulder height with his schematics. His model is listed as YoRHa Number 9 Type S.

Along with the diagrams, it lists his physical details as well as most of his functions. Many of the latter comprises of obvious basics, such as control over motor functions, visual systems, memory systems, and sound input/output, but there are some less obvious ones that are listed as "black box system", "near field control system" (NFCS), "far field control system" (FFCS), and the like. It's also apparent from the schematics that despite appearances, his 'skin' is comprised of nanomachines capable of minor self-repair. Also listed is a hacking module.

A second screen appears with his programming language, easily scrollable.]

Anyway, if you give me a copy of the language and libraries you use, I should be able to incorporate it into my systems. I'm a scanner, after all!
