Hello, everyone!

My name is Leviathan Astrape—Levi, if you'd all like—and let me be the first to welcome you to the Sutoku Alliance! What we do here is a little more up in the air than other factions, but I think that just gives us the freedom to be who we are. If you're not sure what to do next, just keep your ear to the ground and get to know as many people as possible! It really can't hurt in the long term, and it's always better to know more than to know less.

[they don't sound stiff as they're saying it, like they have some practice with public presentations like this, but anyone watching the tracking of their eyes could probably tell that they're reading off cue cards.]

And on that note, we have a few names to know. They'll spend some time introducing themselves, I'm sure, but please keep an eye out for Artemy, Kim, Xingqiu, Yuri, Ydris, Marie, and Cloud. [a pleasant smile as they get to the end of the list.] Please also look out for Emily Dyer, especially if you need any kind of medical assistance or you're interested in helping out there. And our lieutenants within the alliance are Matoba Seiji and, of course, the death-defying Sakamoto Ryouma.

[they gesture in front of them with an open palm towards the person behind the camera.]

You're coming in during exciting times, everyone. We just had a bit of a shake-up at the Tanabata festival. The daughter of an important financial magnate has been kidnapped by an enemy of Toraguma, and though we haven't heard any orders from the Daitengu quite yet, I think we all know how things like this play out.

[and bringing both their hands in front of them, at waist level, they smile and give a polite little bow.]

So please, take this time to get to know your fellow alliance members. [they look towards the camera, then glance at their lapel, where they have a pin with the kanji for sutoku. they laugh like they knew they were forgetting something, and look back up towards everyone else.] And don't forget to pick up your official faction pin from most places within our area if you're interested.

[they wave goodbye, then stand there for a couple seconds. without the feed cutting, they walk forward towards the camera and start talking much more casually.]

Was that okay? Getting those names right was harder than I expected, and I even cut out a lot of the last names. I don't know how you did it the first time.

Hehe, y' know, I wondered about that "death defyin'" part on paper, but hearin' ya say it like that makes it sound pretty heroic! And honestly, I'm pretty sure ya did way better with those names, now that I'm thinkin' about it...

[ anyone who isn't new here will recognise the voice that responds to them from behind the camera, especially with that accent. ryouma is pretty sure he botched a couple names last time, mostly for that same reason. he might be able to fake it and cover it when he's speaking his own language, but when it comes to foreign-sounding words all bets are off. ]

Welcome, Steinbeck-san. Magic experience is quite useful in Hell, which may or may not surprise you. I have some experience, myself. The Daitengu is certainly an interesting individual. Very flippant and easygoing in dealing with us. [At least on the surface, you know.] You will find that unlike some other clan leaders, they do not give us direct orders very often, but rather seem to wish for each individual to use their talents in a way that suits them, to drive their own curiosities. This is a clan for those who are able to take control of their own fates. Therefore, if there is something that interests you right away, one of your seniors can point you in the right direction.

[Oh, how nice for one of the lieutenants to acknowledge her. The answer was detailed though a frown appears on her features as Matoba describes their leader as "flippant and easygoing." With those two traits, you never know what you're going to get at least in her experience.

For those of you with rank, I assume it means you've been here the longest or at least worked your way up over a period of time?

Their network name is 'ten-no-yachimata', should you wish to set a notification. Yes, that's more or less the case. But don't let that deter you. Valuable contributions will be recognized, no matter how long you have been present. Merit is highly regarded in our clan. By my estimation, it has been about 7 months since the first of us arrived.

I suppose it is. Looking back on it now, I think that I have mostly adjusted. But there is nothing much to be done about it but adapt and keep one's ear to the pulse. It isn't as if there are not ways to come and go from this realm, but our contracts make that prospect a little complicated. Some have left more behind than others.

[She instinctively reaches up to grasp her pendant... It's not there. Amelia's not sure when she's lost track of it, but maybe it was taken away.

In a way we're all acting as the Daitengu's eyes and ears aren't we?
On that note though: do you think the Wastelands that have been mentioned will be open to us soon especially after the kidnapping incident?

That's correct. But do not think of it as for the Daitengu alone. In a clan structure, think of it as a body, where the head bears the responsibility for the protection and wellbeing of all of the limbs and organs under them. It isn't a position one bears in order to gain power. It is our responsibility, as the arms and fingers and liver of the organization, to ensure that the entire thing remains healthy. You get what you give. The Alliance maintains healthy relationships with all its member clans by ensuring that the greatest possible benefit is met for each arm. As for the Wastelands, they are a dangerous and inhospitable place for living things and souls. We will have to plan our travel carefully, but I believe the plan is to travel up the Sanzu river and use it as our base of operations. As to when we will be ready, we will let you all know as soon as it is decided.

Will you be traveling outside then, Lieutenant? Or will that be at the individual's discretion?

I haven't yet decided. We don't want to leave the city to the wolves, so to speak, so we will have to carefully think through which of us will be journeying out and which will be staying behind to defend the city. That, too, is pending.

[And considering he thinks he has some idea of what they're after, and who they're up against, he has to consider which is the more dangerous thing to leave to its own devices.]

I'd hate to admit it, but I may be better off staying behind then.
I'd just be a burden without any of my magic to assist or even protect myself.

Hm. At most I can probably keep watch and see if there's an attempt at changing the tides while others are away.

That may be the case. Your abilities, by the way, may be sealed now, but there are ways of earning them back by showing your willingness to accomplish things for the clan. Contributing may be difficult without them, but I am sure there are things you can do without them. You already seem to have a good idea of it, though.

Well, it's not as if I was never without magic.
I'll manage.

If there's any paperwork to be done, I can start with that.

Sutoku's businesses are certainly always looking for hands. If you are interested, perhaps visit the clan's offices in Konoha or the Tengu Temple and see what is on offer? A knowledge of magic, even without the active ability to cast it, is still a boon.

I'll give that a go then. The temple sounds interesting.

As for my knowledge of magic, it may be rather esoteric. The way I cast spells is esoteric, to say the least.

That just makes it sound all the more interesting, honestly. I am a practitioner of Shinto purification. Having come across a number of other sorts of practitioners in this realm, I can say that there is always something to learn from each.
