Hello, everyone!

[on the screen is a polite-looking person with messy green hair and purple eyes. they give a wave and smile with their whole face from behind their white-rimmed glasses.]

My name is Leviathan Astrape—Levi, if you'd all like—and let me be the first to welcome you to the Sutoku Alliance! What we do here is a little more up in the air than other factions, but I think that just gives us the freedom to be who we are. If you're not sure what to do next, just keep your ear to the ground and get to know as many people as possible! It really can't hurt in the long term, and it's always better to know more than to know less.

[they don't sound stiff as they're saying it, like they have some practice with public presentations like this, but anyone watching the tracking of their eyes could probably tell that they're reading off cue cards.]

And on that note, we have a few names to know. They'll spend some time introducing themselves, I'm sure, but please keep an eye out for Artemy, Kim, Xingqiu, Yuri, Ydris, Marie, and Cloud. [a pleasant smile as they get to the end of the list.] Please also look out for Emily Dyer, especially if you need any kind of medical assistance or you're interested in helping out there. And our lieutenants within the alliance are Matoba Seiji and, of course, the death-defying Sakamoto Ryouma.

[they gesture in front of them with an open palm towards the person behind the camera.]

You're coming in during exciting times, everyone. We just had a bit of a shake-up at the Tanabata festival. The daughter of an important financial magnate has been kidnapped by an enemy of Toraguma, and though we haven't heard any orders from the Daitengu quite yet, I think we all know how things like this play out.

[and bringing both their hands in front of them, at waist level, they smile and give a polite little bow.]

So please, take this time to get to know your fellow alliance members. [they look towards the camera, then glance at their lapel, where they have a pin with the kanji for sutoku. they laugh like they knew they were forgetting something, and look back up towards everyone else.] And don't forget to pick up your official faction pin from most places within our area if you're interested.

[they wave goodbye, then stand there for a couple seconds. without the feed cutting, they walk forward towards the camera and start talking much more casually.]

Was that okay? Getting those names right was harder than I expected, and I even cut out a lot of the last names. I don't know how you did it the first time.

Hehe, y' know, I wondered about that "death defyin'" part on paper, but hearin' ya say it like that makes it sound pretty heroic! And honestly, I'm pretty sure ya did way better with those names, now that I'm thinkin' about it...

[ anyone who isn't new here will recognise the voice that responds to them from behind the camera, especially with that accent. ryouma is pretty sure he botched a couple names last time, mostly for that same reason. he might be able to fake it and cover it when he's speaking his own language, but when it comes to foreign-sounding words all bets are off. ]

So that was perfect! I think ya gotta real knack for this sorta thing!

[ which... hmmm, take that with a grain of salt because this man long predated show business, but still!! judging by his tone, ryouma is very pleased since all his coaching and cheerleading and cue card holding paid off, in his opinion! sure the rest of the faction will agree... right? ]

Helllooooo, everyone! I'm Marie Daenthelm! I'm the headmistress of a magic academy back at home. But as of right now, I'm working at the shelter.

I'm former military, and specialize in contract killing -- yes, you heard that right -- and reconnaissance! I used to work in espionage, but turns out I'm not very good at it. But it's a pleasure to meet you all. If you ever need anything, I'm only a call away~

I'll be happy to give any tips on fighting, and even lessons to the newbies that aren't acquainted with fighting.

[Oh, this should be fun. She hasn't trained normal humans before, so this would be so absolutely fascinating.

Yup! I've been scared to get my hands dirty, but if I'm gonna pull my weight and beat up the people that piss us off.

[ Rehearsed a bit, but that's just so she doesn't say "piss ME off". ]

I feel like if you learn how to punch someone, you might actually be able to end up ruling Jigokucho.

[Oh no, how does she go about this? Not that teaching Totoko weapons was a bad thing, but...]

I know just a little bit about throwing a punch. My big brother's a boxer, he taught me a little bit.

Really? Never would have guessed. That's good though; you'll know some things going into training.

[She'll just be very gentle with Totoko. Maybe. Or they can both wreck havoc, who knows.]

Military contract killer to headmistress is a hell of career change.

[He's wary, but well... Espionage, reconnaissance and magic school (???) all pique his interest enough to bypass contract killing. Some of his best (worst) friends (it's complicateds) were contract killers after all.]

Why weren't you good at espionage? Doesn't assassination involve espionage?

I was also a teacher at some point, in between all of that! I've been through a lot of fun career changes.

[At least she's... Fairly nice, despite her very odd resume, greeting Akira with a very friendly, and wide smile.]

It does, but I had scouts do most of the work for me. My main job was to just kill on sight. No muss or fuss, you know? Having magic, and all that fun stuff makes it easier in my world, I think.

[Oh!]

Welcome to the Sutoku Alliance, by the way. What's your name?

[Niceness doesn't really put him at ease, if anything if she was just nice, he'd be a bit more suspicious, but she's very upfront about how shady she is and he finds that much more refreshing. He doesn't think any of it's an act at least.]

Akira Kurusu. Happy to be here, so far.

I knew an assassin who used magic. Made him pretty much impossible to catch. Interesting variety, though. What did you teach?

Oh? Did you end up catching him in the end?

[OOOHH, potential student alert. She clasps her hands excitedly.]

I taught general subjects in my youth, then eventually moved onto special ops and recon. Special operations was basically teaching up and coming assassins. Training wasn't for the faint of heart, to say the least.

But I guess the gist of all of this, is that I train people to be weapons.

[She is very forthcoming with her occupation.]

Do you have any fighting experience, Akira?

[Train people to be weapons, huh... Well, immediately that makes him mark her down as dangerous and someone to be wary of, especially with regard to people he's protective of. He's seen a bit about how that kind of thing turns out for the "weapons" in question. It's not a pleasant thought. Though... it seems a tad more complicated in this case. And if she really taught assassination skills, that's knowledge he could honestly use.

Still, he continues the conversation as normal, it's not like she's hiding it. No reason to be rude.]

We did. He revealed himself when he tried to kill me, after falling into our trap.

Good to know that you had a plan for something like that. Not everyone does, and that will be helpful within the faction.

[She makes a mental note of that, and smiles.]

Maybe we can arm you with what you do know. I can probably teach you a thing or two, if you want. I make for a pretty decent teacher, I think! ... And I guess I'm a bit protective of the younger ones.

Not that I want you guys to fight, but it's gonna eventually happen. Might as well be prepared and all of that.

[Another shady mentor to teach him skills needed to overthrow gods. Must be a day ending with Y. He's still carefully neutral but he does nod in the affirmative.]

I'd be interested in that, for both magic and combat and whatever else you teach. Training's always useful.

[Especially if he doesn't have access to his powers, he's going to want to compensate with other skills.]
