Well, I don't know if you've met Murr, but he wasn't always like he is now. I'm not old enough to have met the original one, but he got too close to the Calamity and his soul shattered.
As for strengthening it...there was one person who did it because Well, he wanted to be a wizard he said. I didn't realize that he held such resentment for me beating him as a swordsman.
